I get nothing like that in my yard. The odd grasshopper, lots of skunks, squirrels, the odd raccoon, deer and that is about it.

Yea the desert can be very interesting.
Here is a juvenile gopher-snake that came through my yard the other day.

Those are cool Aaron. We have lots of snakes around where I live too. Haven't seen any in my yard yet. My friend who lives a few blocks from me was mowing his lawn one summer when he heard a loud noise and his mower stopped. It was a fair sized gartner snake he ran over. 
Never now around here when your going to find a rattler.
